We did the unthinkable…Planned a trip to the Black Hills that overlaps the kickoff of the Sturgis Bike Rally. 😱And all the things I was dreading haven’t been terrible.Traffic. Crowds. Wild behavior. Not bad. Not much. And not at all.So whatever you’re dreading or avoiding because of the imaginary hiccups you expect to encounter…. Aren’t likely an issue at all. 😎✌🏼Check out the full reel at @kelly.bunde 📲

I meal prep every week. 🍽️I started back in college when I took ownership of my athletic performance. Can’t perform without proper fuel. And I’ve carried that habit with me.Through competing in a bikini show, then a figure show, running 8 half marathons, becoming a wife and a mom and a business owner… I meal prep every week. For 12+ years.I no longer weigh my food or count macros. I’m not losing sleep over eating chips or a hand full of Mike n Ike’s.Because without fail I prepare wholesome, homemade meals that are the foundation of how I fuel my body every week.Your habits determine your future. I’m looking at my 37th birthday and am performing as strong as 27 yo Kelly. Yet even more important to me - I’m investing in myself and my family’s long term health. I’m curious - what behaviors have you held on to over the years??

If you do anything outdoors-y and you don’t feel like a partial owner of Milwaukee Tool and YETI… What are you using?!The Packout line from Milwaukee is hands down my favorite thing about power tools. Everything clips together. 🧰All the batteries work for all the tools. And the Yeti cold packs maintain their cool for 48 hours. Easy.Tried and tested this weekend. ❄️We’re back from a four-day weekend at Outpost Adventures and we only worked about half the time. 🎉Having quality gear makes the moments working go quicker so we can get back to playing. 🎣🥾Anyone else grow up in a household that couldn’t find a Phillips screwdriver because nothing was put away last time?! 🤚🏼

Reflecting on our journey, it is incredible to see how far we've come! Installing a septic system in the rugged terrain of the Black Hills National Forest is no small feat. It was a labor of love that brought us closer to nature and our dreams. Jacob took the mail-in exam required in the state of South Dakota that certifies one to install a septic system. There is a percolation test and one must submit flow plans to the state for approval before digging. If you're not prepared with the knowledge, lack access to the necessary equipment and are unsure how to execute on any of those pieces - I'd suggest hiring out this piece. From planning and digging to finalizing the system, we tackled every challenge head-on. It wasn't always easy, but the satisfaction of creating a self-sufficient and sustainable retreat at Outpost Adventures has been worth every bit of effort. Here's to the spirit of adventure and making our vision a reality! 🛠️🌲💪

A common barrier to getting out in nature is this belief that you’re going to be uncomfortable.“I don’t want to sleep in the ground.”“No way am I staying in a tent.”“I need AC.”Or an entertaining “I’m going to need a plumbed toilet.”And many other notions of the comforts of life in America 2024. Hospitality entrepreneurs are knocking down this barrier by curating unique stays in picturesque locations.Pillow top mattresses, bamboo linens, running water, hot showers, temperature control environments. There’s a wide range of amenities, yet the general theme is an elevated experience in nature. ☀️Guests have the perk of being away from our demanding modern lifestyles without compromising on the comforts of home. What’s a frequent comment you hear or feel about camping? Or share the most unique vacation rental you’ve stayed in!I loved our time in the treehouse over Christmas. 🎄My name is Kelly and I’m building a landscape hotel in the heart of the Black Hills National Forest catering to The Modern Traveler.

Uncommon advice:If you’re unsure of what to pursue in life right now,Pursue yourself.Pursue becoming the healthiest, happiest, most healed, most present, most confident version of yourself. Then the right path will reveal itself.Lewis Howes shared this on IG today and it stuck with me.It seems uncommon in a society that pushes the idea to pursue professional goals, personal achievements, the next title or accolade. Or a favorite of mine: find your niche!Do you know how many personality assessments, strength finders, DISC assessments I’ve taken to be told I’m a blend of several?! ie. EOS says I’m both a Visionary AND an Integrator. 🙃I wear a lot of hats in my life. And I don’t lack things to pursue. But I think this stuck with me because decoupling my identity from my pursuits has been the healthiest thing I could have done this year.Curious your thoughts on this? I expect this powerful concept will be interpreted differently by all of us.📸 My momma & me

The first construction project Jacob and I took on as a couple was the construction of our home. 🏠I recall on our first date Jacob sharing a vision of what he’d termed “The Cube.” Lots of glass, a rooftop patio, and with plenty of modern industrial touches. After getting engaged, we set out to construct an updated version of The Cube.Jacob headed up the project as GC and per usual ran a tight ship. It was my first exposure to construction timelines, scheduling sub contractors, submitting draws from the construction loan, along with the manual labor required to get the project done.I only had two serious injuries that never required stitches! 😅From the first shovel to move-in weekend was about 75 days!! 🥳How?Jacob’s industry connections meant we were working with reliable, consistent subs. Our underground utilities, dirt work, and foundation went in smooth. The exterior shell is a Morton Buildings, Inc. and the single-man crew spent five days getting the exterior framing with siding in place. And we took it from there… Every weekend and a few week nights we worked on interior framing, after drywall went up it was on to painting, cleaning, sealing, and recleaning the floors. In typical Jacob style, we prefabbed the construction of our concrete counter tops, islands, and vanities through the previous winter months. This made our install day a lot easier as we avoided a sense of rushing through those pieces. Landscape Garden Centers helped us order and install the Floridian palm tree… It’ll be eight years this October and as with any home we’ve continued a few small projects along the way.Would you ever live in a Morton building? What questions do you have about the house?

Creativity has been measured by outward metrics for years. Personality traits linked to creativity and the cognitive components of the creative process… and that’s a good starting off point.Yet I believe everyone has a desire to create. No matter personality traits or creative process.Disclaimer: The neural reward I get from tidying, organizing and curating a space is HIGH.I could sit in a “finished” space for an hour, enjoying the calmness, daydreaming or journaling. This design process for me is heightened by choosing new decor, rearranging existing items, or simply seeing it in a new season.Advancements in neural imaging have lead to an increase in creative research. This research studies how the brain physically responds through an individual’s creative steps. An advanced musician will demonstrate unconscious cognitive function as it works through a creative number. While an amateur will lean into the more analytical side of the brain to achieve a new creative milestone. So creativity is a skill. As with any skill, you can get better.Science suggests:> having dedicated creative time> daydreaming with purpose> brainstorming ideas without limitations> spending time in natureI legit spent two hours on yard work Sunday. And our resident artist, Architect Jacob Bunde, did a pretty amazing job in the design and construction of home.Art is where you see it. Be intentional to opening your eyes to it.Need a place to disconnect and daydream. Check out our unique stays through the link in my bio. 🏡

Disconnect to reconnect ✨ As an experiential lodging entrepreneur, I love this concept. It’s at the core of decision-making.But why?People feel better when they’re in the moment, taking in a piece of nature, participating in how it moves. Yet our modern lifestyles limit one’s ability to disconnect. I obviously had my phone on me while paddle boarding this weekend. To capture memories and listen to our church service on the water. 🙏🏼I can’t say that my goal is for you to not keep your phone near by, rather it’s to make your experience the center of attention. This moment paddle boarding with my 6 yo on Pickerel Lake this weekend was the center of my attention.Connecting over the shared experience of exploring the world beneath the surface, learning how the paddles work, singing worship music, and being together. It’s important to me that we create opportunities for guests to have their own experiences in nature. 🌲🌳☀️🌊

My daughter is participating in a First Tees camp again this summer. ⛳️After day two, we’re practicing a bit at home and she takes a good swing at the ball. We’ll call it a near miss.. she turns to me and says,Oh sorry. I forgot it wasn’t baseball. 😂It’s another Friday afternoon, folks.Try new things. Take big swings.
